Health scares, relationship changes, and unforeseen layoffs can throw my budget for a loop. When freelancing is a backup plan, balancing employment with the capacity to jump into self-employment can seem like walking a tightrope.
However, since stress can impact both health and relationships, building self-confidence through an investment in one's own business or skills could be a viable option.
For those of us in mid-life now, the skills we learned in college may already seem old-fashioned. The skills of the future, for our younger colleagues, are already the skills of the present. Amid an environment of stress and change, we can challenge ourselves, like master's athletes, to catch up, and to bring the best of the past education system into the present to help make a unique difference in the workplace.
